Boldcall

How it works

How Boldcall works.

The long version. Somebody makes a call with a date on it, everyone picks a side in secret, and on reveal day the whole group finds out who really knew. Here's everything that happens in between.

Making a call

A call is something you think happens, with a date on it. "Dee is late to the wedding." "Buffalo win the AFC East." "The group chat plans a trip and actually goes before summer." Anything with an answer and a day you find out works.

When you post one you can:

  • Put a dare on it. The losing side does something. A week in the rival jersey, the dishes on camera, coffee for the office. Never money, and our rules keep dares safe.
  • Tag whoever it's about. A call about a friend shows up on their phone so they get to answer it.
  • Set a pick-by date. Picks close before the answer lands, so nobody can wait for the news and then vote.
  • Write a brag note. Type the victory lap now. It stays sealed and only opens if you were right.

You do not have to write anything at all. Boldcall ships with ready-made calls for every game, every race and every episode in the interests you pick, so posting one is a tap.

Picking a side in secret

Everyone in the group taps 🔥 For sure or 👎 No way. That's the whole vote. No sliders, no percentages to nudge, no odds.

Your pick is sealed until reveal day. Nobody sees it, not even whoever made the call, and our server doesn't send anyone else's pick to your phone before the day comes. That's the point of the game: you commit without knowing what your friends think, and then you live with it.

Before three people have picked, Boldcall shows no split at all. Two picks and a percentage would identify who picked what.

Reveal day

On the day, anyone on the call can hold the seal to open it. Every pick lands at the same second, with names. Then the call gets settled one of three ways: a scoreboard settles it when the question is machine-checkable, the room votes when it isn't, and the group admin can override a mess.

The result comes out as a card built for the group chat, so the receipts travel. You can also put reveal day in your calendar so you're there when it drops.

Finding something to call

Explore is a directory, not a feed. There's a search box and a set of tiles, and every tile opens a shelf of calls with your own stuff first, then everything else.

Boldcall covers eight interests, and you choose yours when you sign up:

  • Friends and life — everyday calls about your group, plus calls from around your city.
  • School — the school year, from pop quizzes to graduation.
  • The NFL — your club's colors, the weekly slate, fantasy.
  • The NBA — league, team and room calls across the season.
  • College hoops — polls, the bubble and the bracket.
  • The 2026 midterms — national races and the real races in your state.
  • Reality TV — your show, that season.
  • Awards season — the ceremonies, on their calendar.

On top of those there's Today's three, a fresh daily set drawn from what you came for, and Trending, which is whatever everyone else is picking. You can also swipe through calls like a deck: right for For sure, left for No way, up to skip.

On the Record

Our desk publishes bold claims that real people made in public, with the source: coaches, founders and world leaders. You pick a side like any other call, and on these calls only you see how everybody split the second you commit. Names still stay sealed.

Three rules make this work:

  • Only the desk posts them. Players can't submit or suggest a quote, so nobody can put words in anyone's mouth.
  • World leaders ship in matched sets. A claim from one side is published with one from the other, so the feed never reads like a position.
  • Picks close early. Always well before the answer is known.

Your pick is final on these. No switching once you've seen the split.

Time capsules

A time capsule is the other thing Boldcall does, and it is the quieter one. It is a note sealed to a date: to a friend, or to yourself a year from now. You can add up to five photos and a minute of video. You choose the paper, the ink, the wax and the stamp, and it arrives looking like the thing you made.

Once you seal it, nobody can read it until the day comes. Not them, and not you. On the morning it opens, the app counts up how long it waited and then lays the lines out at reading pace.

If you want, Boldcall will email you a link on the day it opens. We only ever hold your own address, never the recipient's, and the email carries a link and never the contents.

Keeping score

Scoring is crowd-weighted, which is the whole design. Being right when almost nobody agreed with you is worth up to 100 points. Being right when everybody agreed is worth 10. Being wrong costs the same amounts. Playing it safe gets you nothing.

There are three boards: your group, your club's fans, and everyone playing. Your record card keeps your hit rate, your streak, how many calls you made alone, and the things you keep getting wrong. There are weekly awards too, and they are not flattering on purpose.

Research is the reference layer: one hub per interest with the calendar, outside numbers with a label saying where each came from, and how your group has picked so far. Counts only before reveal day, never who picked what.

Playing on your own

You don't need a group. Boldcall works from the first tap on your own: a daily set of calls, a streak to keep, and the crowd to measure yourself against, both your city and the whole country. You can compare with one friend without starting a group at all, and when you do add people, your record comes with you.

Money, safety and age

There is no real money in Boldcall and there never will be. No entry fees, no prizes, no odds, no cash-outs. Points buy nothing. Here's why.

Boldcall is for anyone 13 and up. Your calls stay in your group, you can leave a group or delete your account in two taps, and real people read every report. The trust center has the plain-English version of all of it.
